When you see college in movies, everything seems so exciting, care-free, and easy. To my surprise, my freshman year, I learned college is not half as real as they show it on TV. Sure there were parties and games weekly, but everything wasn’t as easy. College involves more studying. You’ll have fewer classes but twice the work as high school. Also in college to be successful you should prioritize everything. School should always come first. My accumulative GPA for my freshman year of college was a 3.0. My GPA could have been much higher if I prioritized school, work, and leisure time. Going into college I had no mentor to warn or tell me this.
My advice to and first year freshman is 1). Make sure you make your schedule on time. If you do you schedule late, you’ll get all the last minute classes and class times. Sometimes the class might even be too full to take. 2). STUDY! In college I’ve experienced several pop quizzes. You never know when your teacher might give you a quiz. 3). Prioritize! There are going to be a lot of fun events on campus but you shouldn’t attend if you know you have a test tomorrow and you have not studied. There are going to be several parties but several chances to take a test are not promised. 4). Surround yourself with POSITIVE people. There are so many crazy things you can get into in college and you don’t want to have the type of friends who will convince you to do the wrong things. Find yourself friends who like study and you’ll have friends who’ll convince you to do your work. You don’t ever want to get to college and lose sight of what you’re really there for!"
